This heritage listed pumping station is located along Coward Street, in the eastern suburb of Mascot. This sewerage pumping station was constructed by the Metropolitan Board of Water Supply and Sewerage in 1923 in the Federation architectural style. It was designed to sympathetically match the houses along this street built in that style.
Jim, certainly an unusual find. Is it still being used? How nice to make it fit in with the surroundings. In our city there are many restrictions on buildings, mostly requiring rock or brick on the construction.
ReplyDeleteLinda Kay, the signs outside the fence seem to indicate that it is still in use.
Deletehmm, how thoughtful of the city making this treatment station so attractive! I find the name of the town and the street name unusual. I was wondering what kind of mascot would be appropriate for sewage treatment! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so used to the names Mascot and Coward Street that I don't see them as strange.
DeleteInteresting street and town names indeed and what an great post/photo for the day, Jim!! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLooks quite elegant for a pumping station.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and indeed it does look rather elegant for a pumping station!

I do like the style it's built in... quite unusual for the facility.
ReplyDeleteGreat relic of the times

Even though it matches the houses, I wouldn't want to live next the pump station.
