The "Strickland Building" contains residential flats, a gallery and retail shops along Cleveland Street, in the inner city suburb of Chippendale. It was designed by R. M. Broderick and built in the early 1900s in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style.

It must have been wonderful living in a flat above your own shop or nearby, saving all that transport worry every morning and evening. But could the residents hear every sound from below, coming up through their floors? Imagine living over a pub :)

ReplyDeleteReminds me of my first home, an apartment over a market on a busy street. I remember watching people, autos and even horse-drawn wagons-- so much action!
