Wynyard railway station, sculpture

This art installation is suspended from the ceiling above a bank of escalators which descend from the York Street entrance of Wynyard railway station. 'Interloop' was created in 2017 by University of Sydney lecturer, artist and sculptor Chris Fox. The sculpture repurposes the wooden treads of the historic wooden escalators that served commuters here for more than eight decades which were removed earlier that year.

  2. The sculpture looks terrific, and I love the idea of recycling the oil treads.

  6. It makes a great picture but I think it would be disorienting to ride that escalator.

  7. Interesting repurposing project, although it does look a bit intimidating.

    1. That's what I thought too when I only saw photos of it but it actually fits in really well in the space.
