Darling Drive, monorail

A view of Darling Drive at Darling Harbour, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont. This is a historical photo from ten years ago, before the monorail was decommissioned in 2013 and the track demolished. The footbridge over the road connects the Novotel Hotel with Harbourside shopping centre which closed in 2023 and is currently being demolished for redevelopment. The Australian National Maritime Museum can be seen at the end of the road.

  1. Now that's something New Zealand needs. Our rail system is rubbish.

  2. Monorails were going to be the transport answer of the future.

    1. Sydney went back to the future with a light rail service built beside the monorail track here, with the Convention tram stop just to the left here.

  3. I have Australian cousins so am always intrigued by photos of your country. Thank you for this bit of history!

  4. I always made a monorail ride a must whenever I used to visit Sydney, Jim. I remember those rides with fondness. Thanks for joining "My Sunday Best".
