Rockdale, birds

These Australian white ibises forage for food in the vegetation which grows along a canal along Rockdale Plaza Drive, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The ibis has come to be regarded as a problem species in urban areas as a result of their scavenging activities, scattering rubbish from bins in the process. The species has acquired a variety of colloquial names such as "bin chicken" or "bin chook".

  1. The ibis was probably in Australia before human beings, so if anyone is a pest, it is us. Cover the rubbish bins firmly!
