This is a brilliant building, especially for its date. I was delighted with the Bexhill Pavilion in the UK (http://melbourneblogger.blogspot.com/search?q=bexhill) where you can also see windows facing the water, an open plaza for socialising, breezy veranda etc. But Coogee's opening date was 1887, not Inter War!
lemon, unfortunately I wasn't able to capture a decent photo of the beach on this visit because the afternoon sun prevented me from capturing it at its best. I will try and get back here soon. Meanwhile, I will have a picture of the rockpools tomorrow. Lorac, I haven't actually been inside the hotel but have sat outside there on the plaza. This was a cool Monday and not many people around. On hot days and weekends this place is flooded with people. Hels, thanks for that extra info.
Love those blue barricade posts. Reminds me of chess pieces. It is lovely to see this venerable old place that has probably delighted generations of holiday visitors to the beach.
It was interesting to hear on the news yesterday the alarm being raised about all in Oz who live near the coasts being warned about the dangers of low land living. What is the reaction there? -Kim
Beautiful hotel, I hope they also maintain the interior and service.
Do you watch Master Chef, Oz? I love it. And yesterday, I watch that food critic on ROVE and he was wearing a pink pair of pants. No wonder, they say, you either love them or loathe them.
Kim, there's been a lot in the news here about houses on the coasts built in low lying areas. Some houses were destabilisd following recent storms and this has set off warnings about rising sea levels and climate change. Some home owners are worried and others think it's an opportunity to buy cheap land with water views. Ann, I'm afraid I'm not a fan of many reality shows like Masterchef Australia.
Looks like a great building. ucky they haven't stuck a McDonalds rightnext to it. I'd like to go back to Aus,and see Tasmania and maybe stop in New Zealand. I'd love to revisit so many places I saw in Australia but you can only do so much with time alloted.
Beautiful hotel. I'd like to see the interior too.

And where is the beach?
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more of the surroundings (to see why it is called palace and beach!). And the inside of course!
Very impressive hotel!
ReplyDeleteNice! Have you been inside?
ReplyDeleteIs it nice?
Great hotel and i love to see the beach to.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
Good heavens! I did not realise this plaza could be this deserted! Every time I have been there it has simply been teaming with young folk.
