Cockatoo Island, stack

This chimney stack from the industrial past of Cockatoo Island still dominates the skyline. The coal fired powerhouse and brick chimney stack were built in 1918, to provide electricity for the island. For a distant view of how it dominates the skyline of the island, there's a shot here from across the harbour.

  7. Steffe and Rosa, most of the old industrial buildings are abandoned on the island but they are slowly redeveloping parts of the island for new uses. In recent years, they have been using a lot of these buildings for special events and festivals.

  12. I like these strutures. Interesting how two or more people can shoot the same thing totally differently. Your shots are so different to the ones I took a year or so back.

  13. I would love to visit Cockatoo Island. The tapered brick tower is very handsome. Is the photo tilted a bit or is this the famous leaning tower of Cockatoo?

  14. Lovely blue skies and captures.
    Happy weekend.

  15. Tulsa Gentleman, I don't know if it's the tapering that emphasises the tilting or whether the curvature of the lens had an effect. I used the ground as a reference point which probably caused me to tilt the camera slightly.

  25. Ann, the powerhouse is no longer required because the heavy industry has left the island. I'm not sure about the water towers though.
