This is one of two Crimean War Cannons located in Centennial Park, in the eastern suburbs. They are a memorial for the Crimean War in 1854 and were donated to Centennial Park by the Royal Botanic Gardens. They were placed there in 1920 to revitalise an area which had been neglected.
Love the tones and lighting that you have captured in the photo Jim. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteWhat a 'bullet'!
ReplyDeleteVery nice shot Jim. Great framework
ReplyDeleteThanks for the image.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say that I didn't realise Australia had a connection to the Crimean War. But then I remembered all the streets in StKilda - Redan, Crimea, Balaclava, Inkerman, Alma etc etc etc
Hels, those Australians involved would have been part of the British forces.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a little odd there in these times. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteNice shot, Jim. That's a very elegant (almost art nouveau) cannon!
ReplyDeleteHandsome cannon. If I ever make it to Sydney I will surely visit Centennial Park.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!
ReplyDeleteI'm lad I find your blog!

Thanks for the post that you have given.
ReplyDeleteI think VC's are made from the canons from the Crimea War. Good to see there is still a supply of raw materials.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it weighs a ton Jim, imagine lugging that thing around.
