These rusting buildings are part of the former White Bay Power Station which is located along Robert Street, in the inner city suburb of Rozelle. This heritage listed former coal-fired power station was commissioned in 1917 and decommissioned in 1983. The ruins sit idle now but the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority which controls the site, is undertaking necessary preservation work to reduce further degradation and ensure the potential for future uses.
Rusty for sure! I like the lines and shapes in this photo.
ReplyDeleteA perfect choice!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot.
ReplyDeleteA great choice for the post. Oh the memories some probably have of when this was up and running, all shiny and new.
ReplyDeleteI like the various geometric shapes and lines as well as the rust.
ReplyDeleteIt has surely seen better days.
ReplyDeleteinteresting photo would have been a busy place in its day :)

Now that's rust and ruins all at the same time. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSo it's heritage listed, eh? It's going to be lots of hard work to keep it standing, I think...
Nathalie, there are quite a few noteworthy brick buildings on the site worth preserving or redeveloping.
DeleteA splendid contribution to the theme, Jim. Fine shot and interesting links.
ReplyDeleteTerrific choice for the theme. Quite rusty!
ReplyDeleteHi Jim, These are posts about painting the hidden side of the White Bay Power Station - there was even more rust around the back! SHFA used the backyard to keep the leftovers from demolishing various bits & pieces around the harbour eg the tanks from Ballast Point (now a park)

Thanks for the links, Jane. It would be great to have a look around the whole place sometime.
DeleteLots of rust here Jim.
ReplyDeleteWould be interesting to visit this place once.
ReplyDeleteFits the bill for sure. Refurbished industrial buildings make for interesting art galleries and cultural centres. Hopefully, this one will be put to a good use.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have gotten anything better for this theme day! Great find.
ReplyDeleteYes that is a good choice for Sydney.
ReplyDeleteHi Jim,
ReplyDeleteInteresting building--old but worth saving--just like me! Thanks for sharing your blue.
Have a Happy Blue Monday!
Great captures!
