Arena Calcetto is an installation in First Fleet Park at Circular Quay. These are two of the six timber towers, standing at 10 metres high, which hide an individually handcrafted foosball table with custom-made players. They were created by a community collective known as Archrival, originally for the 13th Venice International Architecture Biennale in 2012 and will be here until 30 September 2014. I happened to catch a skywriter mid-message, writing something about "traffic" but it was hard to read the whole message since the wind had blown it away. The Sydney Opera House can just be seen in the distance.
Looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteLovely place.

ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
good shot! But I wonder someone did the word traffic in the sky?
ReplyDeleteTraffic? Written in the sky... by God or plane?! LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat shot - wonder what that message was?
ReplyDeleteWonderful creation.
ReplyDeleteFoosball seems to be popular in Aus. We found tables at many public parks when we were there. A nice idea!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's that popular but it may be becoming so.
DeleteA great capture Jim with a message in the beautiful blue sky and a hint of the white sail Opera-House in the background.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely love to walk around First Fleet Park at Circular Quay.
ReplyDelete"Traffic" in the sky, that's a funny picture !
ReplyDeleteHello Jim, somehow I "unfollowed" your blog, not personally, but it seemed to happen. Seeing your comments on my recent posts, I realized you were still blogging. So I re-followed your blog and here I am. What an AMAZING capture to photograph that skywriting for Skywatch! Have a great day. Jo
ReplyDeleteGreat to have you back, Jo. :)
Deletewonderful and a timely shot. I wonder what they were writing... what's traffic doing in sky :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice - it's been years since I've seen a skywriter (I suspect it's too windy here with the mountains).
ReplyDeleteEven if only a partial message from the skywriter...that is still one incredible image!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the skywriting!

That is some fancy flying going on in the sky. I really like the artistic take on the fooseball tables. I was never any good at that game. Have a blessed week-end.
ReplyDeleteCreative Shot ~ Love the composition and sky writer ~ happy weekend to you!

Now can one play foosball or play on the towers or are they strictly just to look at?
ReplyDeleteLove the sky writer. MB
Visitors can definitely play a game of foosball but the towers are strictly for looking at.
Deletenice message in the sky,i wonder how it's done?
ReplyDeleteA small aircraft able to expel special smoke, flies in certain patterns to create writing readable by someone on the ground.
DeleteWhat unique foosball tables, though I find that lovely blue sky and the skywriting more interesting. My Skies
ReplyDeleteIt is not every day that you see writing in the sky!
ReplyDeleteSure hope you weren't in heavy 'traffic' when you took this interesting shot.
ReplyDeleteWas that a warning against traffice? lol Great shot - lovely blue sky!
