The Capitol Square Hotel is located on the corner of George Street and Campbell Street, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. Located next to the Capitol Theatre, it is part of the Capitol Square development that extends to Hay Street and includes the former Palace Hotel, the Watkins Terrace group of buildings, a former bank and post office and the former Parker Lane. The buildings were originally constructed in 1876-1877 in the Victorian Italianate architectural style. They were redeveloped in the 1990s and now feature shops, a hotel, a pub, restaurants, offices, recreation and special function facilities.
Jim, it always such a pleasure to see buildings restored and enhanced. Looks like a busy place.

ReplyDeleteLovely capture of the Haymarket. It has been ages since I visited Sydney
ReplyDeleteNormally we can pick that a building was built, at least initially, as a hotel. This building was extremely elegant, but not necessarily typically of late Victorian hotels.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture. Such a regal structure!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at buildings and thinking about the history involved. Lovely! Maria’s Space
