Pyrmont, Terminus Hotel (Theme Day: Ageing)

The former Terminus Hotel is located on the corner of Harris Street and John Street, in the inner west suburb of Pyrmont. This heritage listed pub was built in 1917 in the Federation Free architectural style and stood at the end of the tram service from the city to Pyrmont. The dilapidated hotel has been abandoned since 1983 and become overgrown with vines. The wealthy owners once planned to redevelop it along with a portfolio of historic buildings but are now selling the properties to create a charitable foundation.

  4. I've seen a house around here that has the same kind of creeping plants on the wall.

  5. Looks like it was a beauty in it's hey day Jim, will be interesting to see when it's sold exactly what the new owners will do with it and what the charity foundation will do with the money raised.

  7. I have seen many pubs built in that style, but in this one, the roof line looks a bit special. I hope it survives.

  11. I'm wondering if the vines have done too much damage to the structure. Excellent take on the theme.

  17. Have you seen any of the paintings by Jane Bennett. She has some fine examples of this old pub. She is a plein-air artist who stalks all the diasppearing parts of Sydney and paints them before they go. She is on FB and runs her own blog http://janebennettartist.blogspot.com.au/

Thanks for this contribution to our theme day. I love the effects that the vines make, even though they are very destructive to the structure itself.

    1. Thanks for the heads up, Julie. I have visited Jane's site before, when she commented on some of my previous photos. I'll have to go back and have a look for the ones of this pub.

  18. I have noticed this hotel too (even though it is not a Royal) it is those vines that draw attention. Nice pick for the day.
