The Rocks, Kendall Lane, Vivid Sydney Festival

"Tectonic" is a fluorescent art installation which was located above Kendall Lane, beside the Discovery Museum at The Rocks, during the Vivid Sydney Festival. It was created by Sean Virili, Justin Hartany, Matt Fung and Jamie Bastoli who suspended 1500 upcycled PET bottles filled with tonic water. The quinine in the tonic interacts with invisible ultraviolet rays to emit a glowing blue light at night.

  2. An impressive sculpture and who would have thought that quinine water would have that kind of effect? Great photo Jim.

    1. Denise, I had actually heard about the fluorescent ability of tonic water but never considered its use in artwork. :)
