This entrance to Redfern railway station is along Gibbons Street in the inner city suburb of Redfern. The building in the background was built in 1979 and leads down to the underground platforms of the Illawarra line. The original 1874 entrance is along Lawson Street and can be seen here. The sign is now a heritage item since all railway signs in this blue and white style with the yellow train logo are currently being replaced by orange and white "T" signs for trains.

A modern look to the place, which given the building's construction time is understandable.
ReplyDeleteA very readable sign!
ReplyDeleteClear subway sign. These trains are a great way to get around.
ReplyDeleteRedfern...blue sign?
ReplyDeleteRedfern is the suburb and all railway signs had been blue and white with yellow logos.
DeleteIt seems very efficient, clean and clear from above ground.
ReplyDeleteSimple is always effective.

ReplyDeletei like that they chose to paint the fence a reddish tone. :)
ReplyDeletethe original entrance has a wee more character!
ReplyDeleteNice looking red colored fencing. I agree with Tanya, the original entrance does have more character.
ReplyDeleteGood thing you recorded it for posterity. I too like it better.
ReplyDeleteLike that fence as well as the sign.
ReplyDeleteHad to look back to see what the T sign looked like. What a shame these nice ones are being replaced by the other generic one.
