Liverpool, TAFE College
The entrance to Liverpool College, formerly Liverpool Hospital, is located along College Street, in the south western suburb of Liverpool. The main hospital building with the octagonal tower was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway and built in the 1820s in the Colonial Georgian architectural style, as were the two Gate-Keepers Cottages flanking the main entrance. Over the years, these heritage listed buildings have been used for different purposes such as the Colonial Medical Service Hospital, Benevolent Asylum, Government Asylum, State Hospital and Asylum, before becoming a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) college.
How perfect! I lecture in a TAFE and it is not particularly attractive building to look at. But re-using the main hospital building, designed by convict architect Francis Greenway, was a brilliant decision.
