Strathfield, Santa Sabina College
Santa Sabina College is a Catholic Dominican private school located along The Boulevarde, in the western suburb of Strathfield. It was originally built in 1894 as the Santa Sabina Convent, designed by Sheerin and Hennessy in the Dutch Renaissance style. The statue of St Dominic was installed in 1901. It was made of Carrara marble, designed by the Dominican Fathers of the English and Irish Provinces and sculpted in Pietrasanta Italy by Angiolo Ferretti.

ReplyDeleteThe Dutch Renaissance style of architecture must have been fairly unusual in late 19th century Sydney, but possibly all the most attractive because of its rarity.
