Rozelle, Garry Owen Hotel
The Garry Owen Hotel is located along Darling Street, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. This pub was originally established on this site in 1881 with this building completed in 1920. "Garryowen", also known as "Garry Owen", is an Irish tune for a quickstep dance. It was used as a marching tune for Australian, British, Canadian, and American military formations, including General Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment and Australia's 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

ReplyDeleteYou can't stay there overnight but it's a working pub with a bar, restaurant and function rooms.

ReplyDeleteFor a late Victorian design, 1920 seems a very late date. It must have been beautiful in its prime.
