A view of Mill Pond from the bridge on Botany Road, in the eastern suburb of Botany. From 1859 to 1886, water from the Botany Swamps was pumped to the city and surrounding suburbs. Industry in the area drained the natural swamp and by 1869, the area was no longer considered to be a reliable source of water.

ReplyDeleteThat is so sad that they drained a natural swamp. Great they at least filled it up with water again - but a water source for the residents is lost.Beautiful reflections for All Seasons, Jesh
ReplyDeleteWater is so important to a city, but it can destroy natural areas. Los Angeles has tapped the Mono Lake area and turned it very salty. - Margy
