Matraville, Pioneer Memorial Park, First Fleeters Memorial

The First Fleeters Memorial is in Pioneer Memorial Park, which is part of the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, in the eastern suburb of Matraville. It was installed here in 2016 to commemorate twelve First Fleeters reinterred here with eleven granite panels on the perimeter etched with the ships’ names, each listing the names of those who sailed with the First Fleet. This statue, which is part of the memorial, is of Admiral Arthur Phillip, first Governor of New South Wales who led the British settlement and colonisation of Australia.

  4. Looks like a well done memorial to some of the first British immigrants to Australia. It has been interesting to see how different groups are reacting to memorials in the US.
