This enlarged photo hangs above a bank of escalators which descend from the York Street entrance of Wynyard railway station. The photo from the State Archives of New South Wales, was taken at the same location on 24th February 1948. This photo is located where an advertisement would have been installed originally. It also acts as a sign, since the wall originally featured a hand painted message reminding people on the escalators to "stand on the left please".
Good one. We were back in your wonderful country and after 7 months sure got the stand left. thingy by heart.
ReplyDeleteThe USS Constellation stopped in Freo and was open to public (this was 1999) and boy... the wanted everyone to take the right lane!
And then 2017 the first ALDI in Joondalup - hup!!! Go the German way.
Each and every time your public toilets crack me up, too! Left? Right?
And don´t start about driving being back in Germany...
Yes, the "keep left unless overtaking" rule from our roads extends to walking on footpaths, entering doorways and standing on escalators.
DeleteI remember having to wear a hat to go to the City :)
ReplyDeleteQuite a contrast when you see some people in t-shirts, shorts and active wear in the city these days.
