This payphone is located at the corner of Bond Street and Pitt Street. The sign on the lamp post is for the green cycleway behind it in Pitt Street. On the other side of the street is a Bank of Sydney branch and post boxes. This a regular payphone with an orange rooftop as opposed to a wi-fi payphone with a pink rooftop. Since 2021, Telstra's public payphones now provide free local and national calls to standard fixed line numbers and calls to standard Australian mobile phones.

Great to hear about free phone calls, either land lines or mobiles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea.
ReplyDelete...they have disappeared here.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful service.
ReplyDeleteThis is a nostalgic item to see. can't believe there is still one on Bond street.
ReplyDeleteA lot more photogenic than most of the remaining outdoor payphones here. You're more likely to get a decent payphone in office building interiors.
ReplyDeleteI was quite impressed with how shiny and new this one looked. Probably because most of them are rarely used these days.
DeleteNice to see this phone. Nothing like this in my small community. This is needed everywhere! Thank you for linking up.
ReplyDeleteThose have disappeared from Finland. Haven´t seen one in more than 20 years. Glad you´ve got it/them. And for free.
