This payphone is located on the corner of Judd Street and Wolli Creek Road, in the southern suburb of Banksia. This Telstra payphone box has been decorated for Christmas with a promotion for the Santa Claus hotline. Children of all ages can make free calls to Santa's Worksop at the North Pole and to tell him what's on your wish list until Christmas Eve. All calls from Telstra public payphones are now free to any landlines or mobile phones in Australia. This campaign has been created to show kids how a payphone works and remind them to use one when it's needed.

ReplyDeleteGosh, when I was a teenager there was a public phone box near my parents' home in Melbourne. I had a boyfriend in Sydney and we used to talk to each other in public phone boxes :)

DeleteCool idea, great that you still have pay phones. I doubt that there are any left here in the States.
ReplyDeleteMost of them have been removed around Australia too and the remaining ones are usually at railway stations or around commercial areas. Not many on a suburban street like this.
DeleteFew pay phones left where I live in the U.S. and the ones left seem to be mainly vandalized - one could wish for a program like this.
