Tom Uglys Bridge

Looking underneath Tom Uglys Bridge, which crosses the Georges River and links the southern suburbs of Blakehurst and Sylvania. This truss bridge on the left, opened in 1929 and the box girder bridge on the right, opened in 1987. To the north is Tom Uglys Point at Blakehurst, believed to be named after local resident Tom Huxley and transformed by the mispronunciation by local Aborigines.

  1. I've always wondered about the name....I wonder if they did it on purpose cos he wasn't nice? Ha! Like the sky and the bridge on either side. Lovely compostition. #Allseasons

  2. A spot where history, engineering, and a touch of linguistic twist all meet above the Georges River.

  3. I remember a previous post about the bridge with the unusual name. Nice perspective here.

    1. I took a similar shot under the truss bridge, a few months ago.
