Surry Hills, Society of Friends Meeting House

 
The Society of Friends Meeting House is located along Devonshire Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. This heritage listed building was designed by architect Alfred Allen Junior, who was a member of the Society, and built in 1903 in the Federation Free Classical style. The Religious Society of Friends is a group with Christian roots that began in England in the 1650s with members called "Friends" or "Quakers".

Ramsgate Beach, sign

A cloudy day over the entrance to Lady Robinsons Beach, near a rock groyne in Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Ramsgate Beach.

Wolli Creek, sign

This gateway sign is located in Cahill Park beside the Cooks River, in the southern suburb of Wolli Creek. The City of Rockdale local government area merged with the City of Botany Bay in 2016, to form the Bayside Council. The logo features a boat and the sign emulates a boat sail, The sign also includes an acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the land, the Bidjigal. Wolli Creek flows into Cooks River which flows into Botany Bay.

This mural is on the side of this bakery and cake shop on the corner of Bourke Street and Devonshire Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. Bourke Street Bakery opened in 2004 and has now successfully expanded to twelve locations in Sydney. In 2019, they also opened Bourke Street Bakery NYC, a bakery cafe in New York City.

Concord West, Masonic Hall

 

This Masonic Hall or Freemasons Lodge is located along Concord Road, in the western suburb of Concord West. This heritage listed building was built in 1927 in the Inter-War Classical Revival style.

Sydney Olympic Park, ferry wharf

Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf is located along the Parramatta River, in the western suburb of Wentworth Point. The original ferry wharf opened in 1997 to service the Sydney Olympic Park precinct for the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. This pontoon extension was built in 2015. Sydney RiverCats are a class of catamarans operated by Sydney Ferries on the Parramatta River, which provide a regular service here from Circular Quay to Parramatta.

This children's playground is located in the middle of Shannon Reserve, along Crown Street, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. The chimney stack rises above a former industrial building now converted to apartments.

 These blooming Jacaranda trees line the stormwater drain in Fry's Reserve, in the southern suburb of Kogarah.

This curious artwork is on the garage roller door at the back of a terrace house along Parkham Lane, beside Wimbo Park, in the inner city suburb of Surry Hills. It was created in 2020 in the colours of the Australian Aboriginal flag.

Auburn, St John's Catholic Primary School

 St John's Catholic Primary School is located on the corner of Alice Street and Queen Street, in the western suburb of Auburn. The original Catholic Church was built on this site in 1893 but later demolished to build this school. The Alphonsus Memorial Building was built in 1930 in the Inter War style.

 Looking across a pond in Sydney Park, a large recreational area in the inner city suburb of Alexandria. The former brickworks here have been transformed into parkland and wetlands. The crane is being used in the construction of new apartment blocks in the nearby suburb of St Peters.

A view of the Infinity building at Green Square from the corner of Bourke and Ebsworth Street, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. Infinity is a 20-storey tower designed by Koichi Takada which includes Skye Suites, a five star luxury apartment hotel.

Zetland, Ovo and Infinity (Theme Day: The Future)

Ovo and Infinity are two residential buildings at Green Square, in the inner city suburb of Zetland. Ovo is a 28-storey ellipsoid-shaped tower with residential and retail space built in 2018 and located on the corner of Bourke and Ebsworth Street. Infinity is a 20-storey tower designed by Koichi Takada which stands above retail and restaurant space built in 2019 on the corner of Bourke Street and Botany Road.

Hurstville Museum & Gallery

 Hurstville Museum & Gallery is located along MacMahon Street, in the southern suburb of Hurstville. 'Kenilworth' was built in 1929 by Doctor John Saxon Crakanthorp to be his practice and family home. In 1962, it became the new club house and recreational centre for the St George Rugby Club. In 1983, it was transformed into MacMahon's Manor, a fine dining and theatre restaurant. Later it housed other restaurants including Fanari Restaurant & Bar. The museum and gallery opened in 2004 and is maintained by Georges River Council as the only regional museum and gallery in the St George district.

 This mural is located on the side of a shopfront office located along Stoney Creek Road, in the southern suburb of Kingsgrove. Micris Design is the name of the building company using this office.

Sydney Arcade

The facade of the former Sydney Arcade is located along King Street. Sydney Arcade was designed by Thomas Rowe and built in 1881 in the Victorian Free Classical style. It was Sydney's first arcade and connected King Street to George Street through an L-shaped arcade. It was used until the 1950s when it became part of a Coles Variety Store, a discount department store. When a new office building was built in its place in 1998, the facade was restored and a retail space was created, now the home of Hugo Boss.

Kogarah, sign

 This gateway sign is located in Hogben Park, along Harrow Road, in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The City of Kogarah local government area merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council. The logo features a dragon which references the legend of Saint George, representing council's connection with the wider St George areaa, the teal colour represents the Georges River itself and a Port Jackson fig leaf represents the Indigenous peoples and their connection to country, The sign also includes an acknowledgement of the traditional owners of the land, the Biddegal.

 This mural on the side of a cafe on the corner of Sydenham Road and Buckley Lane, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville. It was created in 2021 by street artist Reubszz.

This art deco style monument is in the heritage listed Waverley Cemetery, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean in the eastern suburb of Bronte.

Sandringham, navigation mark

A navigation mark is located near a sea wall in Botany Bay, in the southern suburb of Sandringham. Two cormorants sit on the posts of Sandringham Baths, a tidal pool also known as Vanston Baths. In the distance you can see the beach at Dolls Point and the port facilities at Port Botany.

Dolls Point, Lady Robinsons Beach, Botany Bay

The remnants of the Dolls Point tidal bath platform and a wharf, in the southern suburb of Dolls Point. The baths silted up after sands shifted at Lady Robinsons Beach on the shore of Botany Bay, The Norfolk Island Pine tree, which is native to Norfolk Island, stands on the edge of Cook Park.

Barrack Street, art

These art installations on lamp posts along Barrack Street are temporary public artworks created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to enliven civic spaces. "Giant Badges" was created by Adam Norton and features a series of slogans in the form of giant badges. The badges have an immediate sense of nostalgia to them, but their bright, pop construction placed in the present city centre creates new twisted meanings.

Wynyard railway station, sculpture

This art installation is suspended from the ceiling above a bank of escalators which descend from the York Street entrance of Wynyard railway station. 'Interloop' was created in 2017 by University of Sydney lecturer, artist and sculptor Chris Fox. The sculpture repurposes the wooden treads of the historic wooden escalators that served commuters here for more than eight decades which were removed earlier that year.

Sydney Town Hall, Tusk Lion Trail

 

The Tusk Lion Trail is an art event which is a global celebration of African lions and the people who live alongside them. The 47 life-sized lion sculptures were designed and made by artists, musicians and sportspeople around the world to highlight the threats currently faced by lions and to raise funds to support community conservation and livelihoods impacted by Covid-19 across Africa. The artworks have been located in London, Bristol, Edinburgh (UK), The Hamptons (USA), Wellington (New Zealand), Dubai (UAE), Nairobi (Kenya) and Sydney (Australia). ‘Civilian Warrior’ by David Griggs, is now on display outside Sydney Town Hall.

The former Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church was built in 1949 and is located along Shaw Street in the southern suburb of Kingsgrove. Since the new church was built beside it in 1970, this building has been used as the church hall and became known as the Clune Centre.

Belmore, railway station

 The entrance to Belmore railway station, in the south western suburb of Belmore. The station opened in 1895 with a line from Sydenham to Belmore. Today the station is served by Sydney Trains T3 Bankstown line services.

Centennial Park, Column Garden

These flowers surrounding a Yucca Palm in the Column Garden are currently in full bloom in Centennial Park, in the eastern suburbs. The garden is named for two, nine metre high Corinthian sandstone columns which support the statues "Sunrise" and "Sunset".

Centennial Park, bridge

This is one of the sandstone footbridges over the stormwater canal in Centennial Park, in the eastern suburbs. This footbridge was built around 1890 and links Frog Hollow with the Column Garden. The canal leads into Busbys Pond.

Kogarah, mural (Theme Day: Great Big Mess)

This mural featuring reeds is on the side of a lift at the former Kogarah Civic Centre, located along Belgrave Street in the southern suburb of Kogarah. The suburb name Kogarah is derived from an indigenous word meaning “Place of Reeds”. The administration building was for the former City of Kogarah local government area which had reeds in its logo. The local council merged with the Hurstville City Council in 2016, to form the Georges River Council. The Customer Service Centre which was at this entrance, now houses a gym and retail space.
