St Mary's Cathedral, The Lights of Christmas

The tenth annual "The Lights of Christmas" is a light projection show on the façade of St Mary's Cathedral, from 5th December until Christmas night 25th December. This view is from Cathedral Square, beside Cook and Philip Park. Merry Christmas!

Martin Place, Christmas Tree

 The Salvation Army Band performing Christmas carols on the weekend, in front of the large Christmas Tree in the Martin Place pedestrian mall, rising up towards the clock tower of the General Post Office.

Botanic Gardens, Main Pond, sculpture

Looking across Main Pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens towards the Sydney skyline from the walkway beside the sculpture "Palm", created in 1999 by Bronwyn Oliver.

Rookwood, fountain

This curious fountain is located near the Mausoleum of the Resurrection, in Rookwood Necropolis, in the western suburb of Rookwood.

Barangaroo, Westpac Place

Reflections in the Westpac Place building, viewed from Napoleon Plaza. The subway entrance and lift lead to Wynyard railway station and the stairs lead up to Kent Street, near the corner of Napoleon Street.

Lewisham, Lewisham West light rail stop

The Lewisham West Light Rail Stop is located along Hudson Street, in the inner west suburb of Lewisham. This stop is on the Central to Dulwich Hill Line of the Sydney Light Rail Network, beside a new development site.

Circular Quay, tram

This preserved Sydney C-Class Tram, built in 1898, was on display in Alfred Street at Circular Quay last week. It was brought into the city from the Sydney Tramway Museum at Loftus, to celebrate the opening of the new Light Rail service from Circular Quay to Randwick via George Street.

Balmain, Oddfellows Hall and Bank of NSW

The former Oddfellows Hall and former Bank of New South Wales are located along Darling Street, near the corner of Jane Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. The hall was built in 1864 for the the Loyal Balmain Lodge of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a friendly society who owned and used the building from its construction until 1975. The bank was built in 1874 in the Victorian Free Classical style as the first suburban branch of the Bank of NSW and was continuously occupied by it or the Savings Bank of NSW between 1875 and 1914.

Botanic Gardens, sculptural garden

This sculptural garden is located in the Succulent Garden, in the Royal Botanic Gardens. It combines the rusted metal of the sculpture with a variety of cacti. It was created by television personality and landscape designer, Jamie Durie in 2007.

Arncliffe, St David's Anglican church

The former St David's Anglican church is located on the corner of Hirst Street and Edward Street, in the southern suburb of Arncliffe. A small chapel was erected on this site sometime prior to 1861 and this church was built in 1879. A larger more prominent location in Forest Road was found for the new St David's Anglican church, built in 1915. It has been home to St George Potters Group since 1973, operating as a pottery school.

Jones Bay Wharf

A view of the end of Pier 21 at Jones Bay Wharf, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont, with North Sydney and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance. Jones Bay Wharf consists of Piers 19-21 of Pyrmont Wharves. The wharf and warehouse buildings were originally built in 1919, as part of Sydney's port facilities. After those port facilities were relocated to Port Botany, the buildings were redeveloped in 2003 into commercial space, which includes restaurants and cafes.

Capita Centre

The Capita Centre, also known as 9 Castlereagh Street, is an office tower completed in 1989. The 31 level skyscraper is 183 metres tall to the spire and 158 metres tall to the roof. This view is from Hunter Street near Elizabeth Street and has been made possible from this angle following the demolition of a number of buildings along Hunter Street for a new development.

Leichhardt, Hawthorne, light rail stop

The Hawthorne Light Rail Stop, in the inner west suburb of Leichhardt. This stop is on the Central to Dulwich Hill line of the Sydney light rail network, which runs beside the Hawthorne Canal.

Darling Harbour, Sydney Convention Centre, Sofitel Hotel and Harbourside

Rozelle, Garry Owen Hotel

The Garry Owen Hotel is located along Darling Street, in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. This pub was originally established on this site in 1881 with this building completed in 1920. "Garryowen", also known as "Garry Owen", is an Irish tune for a quickstep dance. It was used as a marching tune for Australian, British, Canadian, and American military formations, including General Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment and Australia's 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

Marrickville, mural

This mural has been painted on the wall and fence of a warehouse on the corner of Rich Street and Victoria Road, in the inner west suburb of Marrickville.

Strathfield, Santa Sabina College

Santa Sabina College is a Catholic Dominican private school located along The Boulevarde, in the western suburb of Strathfield. It was originally built in 1894 as the Santa Sabina Convent, designed by Sheerin and Hennessy in the Dutch Renaissance style. The statue of St Dominic was installed in 1901. It was made of Carrara marble, designed by the Dominican Fathers of the English and Irish Provinces and sculpted in Pietrasanta Italy by Angiolo Ferretti.

Botanic Gardens, Lotus Pond

Looking across the Lotus Pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens which is almost completely covered in lotus or water lilies in spring and will now bloom over summer. The Sydney skyline can be seen reflected in a small portion.

Barangaroo, International Towers

Tower One is one of three skyscrapers known as International Towers, in the inner city suburb of Barangaroo. The three towers were built in 2016 in the block bounded by Barangaroo Avenue, Watermans Quay, Scotch Road and Exchange Place, with the walkways Shipwright Walk and Mercantile Walk between them. This view is from Napoleon Street. Tower Three can be seen here and Tower Two can be seen here.
