Rockdale, fire station

Rockdale Fire Station, built in 1938 in the art deco style, is located in Bay Street in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It replaced the fire station on the corner of Princes Highway and Bay Street established in 1897. This fire station closed in July 2006 when the Rockdale Fire Brigade moved to the new Arncliffe Fire Station.

  1. The Rockdale Fire Station at 41 Bay Street, Rockdale replaced an earlier station just around the corner on the Princes Highway. That station was built in 1897 by the Fire Brigades Board. The earlier Arncliffe Fire Station opened in 1909 on Forest Road did not close until 1945. The Rockdale Bay Street station was replaced by the modern Arncliffe Fire Station.

  2. Thanks Janette. I've corrected the Arncliffe fire station and Rockdale fire station posts. Cheers.

  3. This was a disability service for quite some time. Now the owners of the building have had a DA approved to bulldoze it.. such a shame to lose part of Rockdale's history...
