The Rocks, sculpture

This sculpture of Robert Campbell adorns the wall of the Customs Officers Stairs at The Rocks. It was created by Dennis Adams in 1978. Robert Campbell was a pioneering merchant in Sydney who built the private Campbell's wharf and warehouses in this area. The other sculpture at this location is a war memorial created by Lyndon Dadswell, a lieutenant who created sculptures of his war time experience serving with the Australian infantry in the Middle East.

  6. I have enjoyed the posts this week around one of my favourite historical areas. Every 80 or so years, we tear it all down but that is what cities and their humans do. I walked up and down these very steps just a couple of weeks ago, trying to get good vantage points and then seeing something else that I would like. These steps and the steps up the overseas terminal to the round lookout.

Great area for a photographer and a people watcher.

Being of German origin, please allow me still to ask for pardon; and wish you a nice Thursday as well.

  11. Nice photos of these plaques beside the old storehouses.
Robert Campbell is my great, great, great grandfather. I was born on one of his sheep stations in southern NSW.
