Oatley, baths

This view of the Oatley Park Baths and the Georges River is from Sandy Beach on Oatley Bay. The baths were originally constructed in 1909 and are still utilised by the Oatley Amateur Swimming Club which was established in 1927. The pontoon is an ideal resting spot in the middle of the netted area. In the distance, a train crosses the Como Bridge linking the southern suburbs of Oatley and Como.

  3. Rosadimaggion63, it was a bit cold to take the plunge on that day, as you can see there were no swimmers. It's much warmer now, so people would take a dip.

  8. I learned to swim in a river too. Not from the Pontoon but my grand dad's private jetties.

  9. That is a nice spot, Jim. I'll swim just about anywhere, although I get chicken when the water is cold. Would this be salt water or not?

  13. Countless times I have crossed that bridge in the train, little realising that Oatley, a suburb an aunt lived in, was nextdoor! I've learned a lot about Sydney from you Jim, more than I knew when I lived there! Great photography :-)

    Happy travels!!

  16. Francisca, the Georges River is salt water in this area.

Red Nomad OZ, I assume it is shark netting but I don't think they usually travel this far up the river. Better to be safe than sorry.
