Oatlands, house
Oatlands House, located in the north west suburb of Oatlands, is one of the earliest homes in the district. Built in the 1830s by Captain Percy Simpson, the name appears to be taken from Oatlands Park in England, which was close to the lands of Lord Dundas, for whom the neighbouring suburb of Dundas was named. This area had actually been known as West Dundas until 1991 when Oatlands was defined as a new suburb. Oatlands House is now used as function centre, with magnificent gardens and the surrounding land forming the Oatlands Golf Course.
Unusual veranda for Australia but what a lovely view onto the garden. I know the Dundas family.. I wonder if it was their great grandfather's :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely piece of architecture. It looks to me that the roof of the main house is tiles, and the veranda part is shingles. This is very interesting. This would be an elegant place to go for meeting and/or golf. Noticed your post below of the clubhouse for the golf course. Both are so nice. genie

Shahana, I'm not sure what it would be worth. It's set on five acres, surronded by gardens and a golf course so I'm sure it would be quite valuable.

ReplyDeleteSpectacular colonial architecture, Oatlands is a much better name than West Dundas and I am sure the estate agents and vendors like it as well.
