Botanic Gardens, Arc Glasshouse
The Sydney Tropical Centre in the Royal Botanic Gardens, comprises of this Arc Glasshouse and the Pyramid glasshouse. The Arc was opened in 1990 with a linking underground foyer to the Pyramid Glasshouse which had been opened in 1972. Both glass structures house displays of tropical plants. The glass office buildings rising in the background are located along Phillip Street or Macquarie Street.

Kay, they've actually done a good job in positioning the Arc Glasshouse behind the Pyramid Glasshouse so they complement each other. If you click on the Pyramid link, you can see a glimpse of the Arc in the background.

ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious. I have been visiting Sydney regularly since 1969 and have never seen these glass buildings. Yet the Pyramid Glasshouse was opened in 1972 and the Arc, with a linking under-ground foyer, was opened in 1990! Are they not promoted in tourist literature?

Wonderful composition Jim, so many eye catching structural shapes, am loving all these thing that I now know are there and can visit in November.
ReplyDeleteHels, I don't know if they get promoted in tourism pamphlets but they certainly should be. Because I work in the city, I often take a stroll in the gardens at lunchtime and I keep discovering so many interesting things there.
