The Sydney Tropical Centre in the Royal Botanic Gardens, comprises of this Arc Glasshouse and the Pyramid glasshouse. The Arc was opened in 1990 with a linking underground foyer to the Pyramid Glasshouse which had been opened in 1972. Both glass structures house displays of tropical plants. The glass office buildings rising in the background are located along Phillip Street or Macquarie Street.
Gorgeous! What a great light and beautiful blue sky J.
ReplyDelete... very impressive buildings are this. .. greetings from Geli
ReplyDeleteYour thumbnail photo on the SkyWatch page immediately brought to mind the sculpture in your previous post, Jim. I'm wondering if the arc shape is indigenous to Australian thinking.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have glass buildings behind the arc glasshouse, too, so they don't detract from its design.

Okay, now I see why. The thumbnail picture IS from your previous post, Jim.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm holding by my theory about the arc and Australian art.

Kay, they've actually done a good job in positioning the Arc Glasshouse behind the Pyramid Glasshouse so they complement each other. If you click on the Pyramid link, you can see a glimpse of the Arc in the background.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very gorgeous garden to house beautiful plants. Wish I could visit that place. ^_^ Happy weekend!

Been great to see the BG's all week. This is one my favourite spots.
ReplyDeleteVery, very pretty! I am generally not a fan of modern art and architecture, but I find this so very beautiful! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove that sliding and arcing roofline! Fascinating structure that blends well into the gardens!
ReplyDeleteGreat capture and perspective Jim. I haven't noticed this before in the BG so it's wonderful to see. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteSplendor in the glass. A great shot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky reflected by the glass house. The more I read about Sydney, the more I wish to visit it some time.
ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious. I have been visiting Sydney regularly since 1969 and have never seen these glass buildings. Yet the Pyramid Glasshouse was opened in 1972 and the Arc, with a linking under-ground foyer, was opened in 1990! Are they not promoted in tourist literature?
ReplyDeletelooks great against the skyline
ReplyDeleteHi there - thats a nice looking building - like the way it flows.
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Wonderful composition Jim, so many eye catching structural shapes, am loving all these thing that I now know are there and can visit in November.
ReplyDeleteHels, I don't know if they get promoted in tourism pamphlets but they certainly should be. Because I work in the city, I often take a stroll in the gardens at lunchtime and I keep discovering so many interesting things there.
ReplyDeleteWow... Sidney is a very modern city because of its architecture, but a certain form a beauty comes from all that glass and steal...
ReplyDeleteYou make me dream of visiting Sysney. Here you have given us anuther fabulous place to see...and the reflections are superb. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favourite spots in the Botanic Gardens. You captured the Arc Glasshouse beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great series on the gardens, thanks!
