Matraville, Pioneer Memorial Park

The clouds roll in over the monuments in Pioneer Memorial Park, which is part of the the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, in the eastern suburb of Matraville. The park was created in 1976 as a memorial of early pioneers and prominent citizens of the colony of New South Wales and features memorials that were transported from early Sydney burial grounds.

  2. PerthDaily said it so well. I have never seen headstones lined up so immaculately. Indeed, a wonderful tribute to those who were there at the beginning.

  8. Interesting monument in the foreground that is set apart from the others. Were the remains reinterred also, or new markers place at the old burial site? Also you found some beautiful skies above the park.

    1. Lew, it's mostly monuments in this park. Some of the old cemeteries close to the city were redeveloped over a century ago but not many of the remains were reinterred.

The contrast between the greens and browns at ground level and the blue sky is dramatic. Great shot!
