"Opera on Sydney Harbour" is now an annual event held at Mrs Macquaries Point in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Carmen is being performed on this purpose-built floating stage on Farm Cove, between 22 March and 14 April. The stage features this huge, blood-red, Hollywood-style sign spelling the name of the title character.

I saw the opera advertised on tv and wondered if we should fly to Sydney for a long weekend. Have the reports been good?
ReplyDeleteVery good reviews and they have been a sellout, so new shows have been added at the end of the season.
DeleteWow! This looks as if it would be a grand experience outdoors! I presume there would be night and day performances?
ReplyDeleteOnly night time performances with a spectacular backdrop of Sydney skyline lit up and ending with fireworks over the harbour.
DeleteThat's some seriously creative advertising for the show -- and for anyone named Carmen
ReplyDeleteI have seen Shakespeare in the Park, but never Opera in the Harbour. I think it would be quite spectacular
ReplyDeleteBecause this event is so popular, they have already started planning for next year which will be Madame Butterfly. So book you ticket now, Lesley. ;)
DeleteGreat! A sign that cannot be missed.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular backdrop! I bet it's wonderful; hope you got to go to a performance.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really huge sign.
ReplyDeleteCan't miss that sign Jim, in size or in colour. Will you be going?
ReplyDeleteNot this time, Joe. But after reading about how amazing the performances were, I'd like to go next time.
DeleteAlways a gamble with the rain.
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous to see an opera in such a place....I can hear the beautiful sound carrying over the waters to me....
ReplyDeleteAmazing.
ReplyDeleteNice! Thanks for sharing!
