Glebe, town hall

Glebe Town Hall is located on St Johns Road between Vernon Street and Lodge Street, in the inner west suburb of Glebe. It was designed by Ambrose Thornley Jr in the Victorian Free Classical architectural style and built in 1891. In 1968, the Municipality of Glebe was merged with Leichhardt Council but the building continues to be used as a community and function centre.

  2. How important the good councillors of Glebe must have thought themselves in the late 1880s. That town hall is not just attractive and expensive... it is also huge!

  3. Now that is indeed a stately town hall. Love the finials on the top.

  5. So stately! They don't build them like that any more - unfortunately.
