Darling Harbour, Sign for the Dream

"Sign for the Dream" is an artwork on the wall and lawn at the front of the Sydney Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. It was created by David Humphries and is also known as the Olympic Journey Celebration Pathway Mural. The Olympic Journey was a national celebration of the Sydney 2000 Olympics featuring parades, picnics and exhibitions that took place in 1997. It is comprised of terrazzo discs designed to represent the communities visited in The Olympic Journey, inside the form of a rainbow serpent. The rainbow serpent is a creator god in the mythology of Aboriginal Australia.

  1. The rainbow serpent was indeed the creator god in aboriginal mythology. Plus it is represented in the gorgeous, realistic colours of central Australia's natural landscape. I love it.

  12. The pathway images look complicated and intricate. Hopefully the words are meditative and help create reflections on life and living. Thanks for showing this path to us. Thanks too for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
