Botanic Gardens, Lewis Wolfe Levy Fountain

The Lewis Wolfe Levy Fountain is located in the Royal Botanic Gardens. This Art Nouveau fountain was created by English sculptor Charles Bell Birch, commissioned by the family of politician and businessman Lewis Wolfe Levy in 1889. It is surmounted with a bronze statue of a young woman (supposedly the Goddess Diana) with a heron, reeds and frogs at the base. The four corners of the fountain have large bronze drinking bubblers mounted on them.

  2. Love bigger fountains where you can actually come up and climb them. This one looks fantastic.

  3. Sorry I've been really, really bad about keeping up with blog surfing the last week - too busy celebrating my birthday :-0 !! That said, the gardens look amazing!

  4. Thanks for the reference to Lewis Wolfe Levy. He sounded like a terrific businessman and philanthropist, but not such an effective politician. I think an impressive fountain in the biggest public gardens in Sydney sounds perfect.
