Mortdale Hotel is located on the corner of Pitt Street and George Street, in the southern suburb of Mortdale. It was built in 1930 in the inter-war architectural style and replaced the Saltwell's Hotel which had operated near Memorial Park since 1895.
Very interesting architecture style Jim...

I always enjoy seeing these corner buildings, I don't think we have even one here in Perth.. I'd better check that :)
ReplyDeleteVery Sydney, isn't it? And clever use of architecture on a tricky block of land.
ReplyDeleteI love those old buildings shaped like this - I think it's called a "flatiron." San Francisco, where I grew up, had a number of old buildings in this style, though in earthquake country as it is bricks are rarely used.
ReplyDeleteI love that overhang wrapping around it!
ReplyDeleteI love all the corner 'flatiron' buildings you have. With our grid pattern streets we rarely see that.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fine looking hotel with an interesting name. Great find.
ReplyDeletei enjoy these triangular buildings.
ReplyDeletefrankly my dear
I like this hotel. Triangular plots give the architects an opportunity to show off their skills. The designer of this building did well.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool building. Reminds me of a miniature version of the Flatiron building in NY.
ReplyDeleteIt still looks like a classy building.
ReplyDeleteI find triangle buildings fascinating.
ReplyDeleteIn these parts we call this a "Flat Iron" building. Tom The Backroads Traveller
