Circular Quay, Animalia II

"Animalia II" is a mural on a banner that has been hung across two wharves at Circular Quay, as part of the 2014 Art and About Sydney festival. The artwork was created by Carnovsky, an Italian artist/designer duo comprised of Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla. It celebrates Australia’s internationally renowned natural wonder, the Great Barrier Reef. It also raises awareness about how coal port expansion projects are putting the reef and the millions of life forms that live there at risk. The waters of Sydney Harbour are agitated as the engines start up on the departing Queenscliff, a Freshwater Class ferry.

  1. Jim, you come up with the most interesting shots. Very unusualy to drape that display over the water at the wharf.

  2. Are the coal port expansion projects you mentioned in Sydney? or up north, closer to the Great Barrier Reef?

    1. Hels, up north in Queensland, close to the Great Barrier Reef.

  3. I love the sound and fury when the ferry backs out.
    INteresting place for a mural!

  4. Once again superb research, and a well timed shot to get the turbulence.

  5. Hi Jim,

You sure found a unique blue today. Who would've thought of displaying art this way? I love the idea.

Please come back and tell me what you think of my Blue.

    Have a Happy Blue Monday!

  6. That's a unique piece with a lot to say!

  7. Murals and protest seem to go hand in hand. Hope the campaign makes some headway. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  8. Interesting shot of the ferry and banner. I hope the coral reefs win out over the coal interests. It's sad when people don't take care of the environment.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Please leave me a message. Jim.
