Charing Cross Hotel is located on the corner of Carrington Road and Bronte Road, in the eastern suburb of Waverley. This heritage listed pub was built in 1935 in the Inter-War, Art Deco architectural style.
A very interesting building. I know it's stupid to say and even though I understand the historical connection, it still surprises me to see so many place names that are the same as in London or GB.
This hotel looks monumental, which could be from the architectural design or it may have been built for more than just drinking and dining. Being so close to Bondi Junction and the beach, it makes perfect sense that the Charing Cross Hotel would also have excellent accommodation for travellers.
I agree with sally's comment. Such a familiar name to me that I am taken aback by the photo. Very interesting to see the influence of the art deco movement on Australian architecture.
Art Deco always appeals to me. I like this.
ReplyDeleteAnother fascinating building ~ great shot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you ~ ^_^

ReplyDeleteA nice building for a pub.
ReplyDeleteDelightful curved corner design in Art deco mode. And love the wall colour too. It's different from the usual pub.
ReplyDeleteI really like all the corner buildings you find. They're so "Australian" to me!
ReplyDeleteThe Art Deco architecture is interesting to me. I can't quite decide if I love it or not.
