The Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, formerly the State Sports Centre, is located at Sydney Olympic Park, in the western Sydney suburb of Homebush Bay. It was known as the Basketball Centre during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and was the home to the West Sydney Razorbacks, an Australian professional basketball team and the Sydney Swifts, an Australian netball team. The Razorbacks disbanded and the Swifts merged with another team, so these billboards are heritage items now. Almost difficult to believe that it's as already been sixteen years this month since the Olympics were in Sydney.
The Razorbacks is the name of the University of Arkansas football team. Similar names, very different teams. Lovely sports arena.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a really huge arena!
ReplyDeleteTime flies, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does. William. Seems like yesterday I went to see the events at Olympic Park.
DeleteBIG signs.
ReplyDeleteThe sign outlasted the team...
ReplyDeleteGood to see that the building is still being re-purposed.
ReplyDeleteIf any new teams emerge, they will have a decent place to play, at least.
ReplyDeleteglad it is still being utilized.
ReplyDeleteNice looking sports complex.
ReplyDeleteIncredible how quickly time flies. Shame it's no longer used
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
OD3G, the sports centre is still used. It's the teams that have disbanded or merged with other teams. The Sydney Kings men's basketball team plays at a nearby arena and the New South Wales Swifts female netball team still use this stadium.
