This hand painted sign is on the wall of a Hay Street entrance of Paddy's Markets, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. Originally known as the Vegetable Market building, it was built in 1909 in the Edwardian architectural style and the façade was preserved. Paddy's Markets have operated in Haymarket since 1834. It is part of a series of murals designed by a local artist David Doyle to mimic some of the past advertising signs. Another sign at another entrance can be seen here.
That's a fine looking sign indeed. Greetings to you!
ReplyDeleteAn original sign!
ReplyDelete...a nice bit of history.
ReplyDeleteThat is a long time! Irish in origin I presume.
ReplyDeleteThe origin of the name is unclear but it was most likely taken from Liverpool in England which had an Irish area with a well known Paddy’s Market and this market was in essence the same.
DeleteWonderfully old fashioned.
ReplyDeleteNice sign indeed.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeletePaddy's Markets on the ground floor were always super fun. And the Edwardian architecture is still looking good.
ReplyDeleteThose are some nice curves :)
ReplyDeleteIf it is hand made, someone knew what they were doing.
ReplyDeleteNice! Old-timey (in a good way)!
