Young Street, terrace houses

These four heritage listed terrace houses located along Young Street were part of the first Government House site. They were built in 1875 in the Victorian architectural style. They were government offices from 1875-1937, nurses accommodation from 1937-1982 and then storage space from 1982-1988. IThey are now the main office for Sydney Living Museums which includes the adjacent Museum of Sydney.

    1. Carol, thanks for that. It was difficult to get the whole building in the one shot so I had to be a bit creative.

  4. I love terrace as an architectural component to any building.

  5. I also loved terraces, but the Young Street look more united and less independent than the homes I found in most capital cities. Perhaps the stairs integrate each pair of houses as opposed to a front gate leading directly to a front door

    Thanks for the link

  6. ...what a nice Victorian building, it reminds me of buildings in New Orleans. Great to see that it hasn't become a highrise. Thanks Jim for sharing!

  7. Like the work on the balconies and stairs. Sydney has so many architectural styles.

  8. Hello Jim! Beautiful photo!
I agree with Carol McKenna...wonderful angle. I think I'd have liked to live in one of these houses a century or so ago. Lovely lacy detail, and elegant proportions.
