Kensington, substation

This electricity substation No.159 is located along Anzac Parade, in the eastern suburb of Kensington. The heritage listed building was built in the Federation Arts and Crafts architectural style, with Art Nouveau elements such as the style of lettering. The  Municipal Council of Sydney logo, “MCS”, which was the name of the electrical utility company, appears on the facade. The identification number “No 159” and the words "Electricity Sub-station" in relief sit above the main doorway.

  4. I also read once about Sydney having over 200 substations built in the 1920s-1930s and this is one of them. I seem to remember that there was also a major fire in one of them in 2011 due to a faulty battery system. Nice that I could meet one at your place as well because some of them are really old.

    1. Tine, if you click on the substations label, you can see some of the others I have photographed. There's quite a few out there that use this exact design.
