Chinatown, kiosk

This information kiosk is located in the Dixon Street pedestrian mall in Chinatown, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. The former seating pagoda enclosure was converted into a red lantern kiosk by Frost Design and Lacoste + Stevenson Architects. "Pao Cha" (to make tea) is the artwork created by artist Pamela Mei-Leng See depicting chrysanthemum flowers left behind after tea is poured, which envelops a red lantern that is illuminated at night. It stands in front of a commercial building called Harbour Plaza which has a restaurant, bar, shops and office space.

  1. What a beautiful spot you've shared! The transformation of the former seating pagoda into a red lantern kiosk is such an elegant and creative approach. I love how the artwork by Pamela Mei-Leng See adds another layer of meaning, with the chrysanthemum flowers symbolizing tea being poured—such a delicate and thoughtful tribute to the art of tea-making. The illumination at night must create such a magical atmosphere, especially with the surrounding commercial space adding to the energy of the area.

It's wonderful that you captured this peaceful yet vibrant spot in Chinatown. Thanks for sharing this insight into the kiosk’s story! I hope you are having a great weekend. 1. There are plans to redevelop parts of Dixon Street. I'm not sure if that building is one of the ones which will be redeveloped which might explain why they haven't repainted it.
