Rockdale, house

This historic house is located in Frederick Street, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. It was built in the Federation Queen Anne architectural style with Arts and Crafts touches.

  1. It looks like the houses built in Dinard, France where we have just returned from holiday!

  2. Lovely old house and a great capture as always, Jim! Hope you have a great week!

  3. I like all the shadows tucked away in various corners of this photo!

    If shadows could jump,
    How high would they go?
    As high as the moon?
    Does anyone know?

    If shadows could weep,
    How long would they cry?
    As long as it takes
    To climb to the sky?

    If shadows could laugh
    And tell funny jokes
    Would you take them home
    And say, “Get this, folks!”?

    If shadows could wed,
    Would they prefer you
    Or somebody else
    To promise, “I do”?

  5. Is the suburb of Rockdale very far from the city Jim, from your pics this week it seems to be an older suburb, I like it's style!!

  6. PerthDailyPhoto, Rockdale is 13kilometres from the city and it is one of the older, more established suburbs. There are a lot of Victorian, Federation and California Bungalow houses still standing.

  7. Love the Queen Ann with the witches hat

  8. Like the Aussie balcony, keeps it cool and a great way to relax. My Sarawak houses were like this too.

  9. A very beautiful house! and very different to ours...Have a nice day :)

  10. Hi there - one of the (many) things I love about being a migrant is looking at pictures like this one. Back in the UK this would be a "normal" house - but here its "historic". It makes you change the way you look at things. And the change is a good thing!

Cheers - Stewart M (born in a house that was built before Cook set foot here!)

  11. That looks like a very loved house. Gorgeous!

  12. Quite true, Stewart. With a history of European settlement and development of only 223 years in Australia, I can imagine how strange it must sound to people from places where buildings and structures that are hundreds or thousands of years old.

  13. Fantastic house, and bless their hearts, the owners have retained all the original Edwardian characteristics. At least on the outside of the house.

  14. How I wish that one day I could built such a big and beautiful house.

  15. I wandered down Bradleys Head Road today from MOsman Junction to the zoo. Lovely lovely houses along there. Bit costly but ...

  16. Julie, one good thing about houses in places like Rockdale is that they are more affordable, even if the location is not as beautiful. Although they are starting to get pricier here too now.

  17. Funny, I just stumbled across this blog! My aunty and uncle bought this house in the very early 80s. It was owned by a hoarder and full of car parts and scrap metal. The house though was completely intact and the restoration they undertook was superb. Carpets and upholstery from France, walls clad in contemporary art and rooms furnished with colonial cedar and other goodies from a mansion nearby. They sold it close to 15 years ago and currently working on yet another project. The aircraft noise was a killer lol

    1. Thanks for that info, Finniss. They did a great job restoring this house.
