Banksia, Free Church
The sun shone through a grey sky above Banksia Free Church, located along Princes Highway in the southern suburb of Banksia. It was originally part of the parish of St. Paul's Church of England in Kogarah but broke away in 1890 to form its own congregation.
The yellow reflection on the glass is beautiful!

Nice. Is that Free Church similar to the Free Church from Europe and the U.S.? My husband grew up in the E.V. Free Church.
ReplyDeleteDee, I've desperately been trying to find information on this church which seems to be the only one of its type in Sydney. Thanks for those leads, I'll keep searching.
ReplyDeleteNot a very big church...but probably big enough to do what needs to be done inside!

ReplyDeleteLovely looking church. Interesting to see how the tree grew on the pathway. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteWonderful church and sky...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you're blogging from your hospital bed Jim, you should be resting!! I would probably be doing the same haha! Beautiful blue sky, perfect for today. Take care.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought as well was what is a Free Church? Obviously Christian probably Pentecostal, but in Banksia????? This is an excellent find Jim.
ReplyDeletePerth Daily Photo, it keeps me occupied and my mind on something else for a little while. :)
ReplyDeleteMark and Peter, I can find references about people being married and christened in this church back to the 1950s but not much more.
Beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteThx for visiting my blog!

I'm quite taken with that brave little tree growing out of what appears to be a very wee patch of earth! Bless its heart (no pun intended, given that the tree is growing in front of a church). :-) I also like the color of that green building to the right. Looks minty fresh! I'm glad the sun came out for you, the colors in this photo are very handsome.
ReplyDeleteA perfect sky!

I'm taken by the architecture. Sandwiched between two modern buildings, the church has its own modern touches, the high horizontal windows, the door, the side orientation. There is a STORY behind this one. Keep seeking and ye shall find.........

Lone tree looks amazing against that wonderful brickwork!
ReplyDeleteJan, thanks for your well wishes and kind words.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking church.
ReplyDeleteHas become St Savvas of Kalymnos Orthodox Church (Kievan Patriarchate) since 2016. Excellent restoration work once again a landmark of Banksia.
