St Lukes Anglican Church is located at the corner of Northumberland Street and Elizabeth Drive, in the western suburb of Liverpool. This church claims to be the oldest Anglican church in Australia. It was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway in the Georgian architectural style and completed in 1819.
Such a nice building-and a very nice day!
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool building and a good shot.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice looking building. I would love to see what it looks like inside!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the fascinating features that part of Australian history is being preserved through these heritage buildings such as antiquated churches. If there is really anyone who deserved to be hailed by this country, it is the convicts for their hard yakka in leaving their marks through historical landmarks they designed, created and built.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty church. I always enjoy church architecture. I bet it is lovely inside, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my moon shot post this week. I've been out of town and am just now catching up. I heard about your dust storm. Thanks for the photos so we could see it in such detail. I was caught in a desert dust storm in Death Valley in California once in a car while driving. We could barely see to drive and it did quite a bit of damage pitting the paint. Not a pleasant experience! - Margy
ReplyDeleteWow. I was listening to the ABC radio the other day and this guy said his relative was one of the first in Melbourne? in 1839 on of the first ships. I had relatives there in 1835 I thought, they came on a ship. Maybe he forgot some landing in Geelong.
ReplyDeleteVery nice building.
Hi. My name is Joel and I'm part of the ministry team at St Luke's. We'd love for people to come and visit us. We're an active Church that has three services on a Sunday. It would be a great opportunity to find out what the building looks like inside, as well as seeing how we're more than just a good looking building.

Wow, it looks so modern to have been completed in 1819. Fantastic pictures, beautiful church.
ReplyDeleteBeneath Thy Feet
these brick structures fascinate me, this beautiful and quite utilitarian in its look...clean and strong!
ReplyDelete«Louis» is enjoying your inSPIREd Sunday posts. He notices that some are from older posts, but why not recycle them? To those who didn't see them the first time, it is as if they were just posted today! :-)
ReplyDeleteA community church in Cloverdale, California is «Louis'» contribution to the meme.
Some weeks I don't have a new church to post but I want to participate in the memes. I might recycle when I run out of pics.
Deletei enjoy the brick & clock tower. Sally & I (Beth, that's me.) love it when you link up to InSPIREd Sunday.
