Matraville, Eastern Suburbs Crematorium

  1. I know this building well, Jim. It is a lovely art-deco design. The chapels are still perfect for their role, but the working areas in behind the chapels would not pass muster for normal folk. However, the people who work in behind have been their for yonks and would not work anywhere else!

Thanks for your contribution to Taphophile Tragics this week. I appreciate it.

  3. Nice Art Deco/Egyptian building - perhaps appropriate for a mortuary complex give the Egyptians' preoccupation with death and the afterlife.

  6. Interesting building. I've never been a fan of art deco, but this one seems to fit the use.

  10. This looks more like some administrative offices rather than a mausoleum! Impressive, fascinating building style.

  11. Art deco masterpiece - a spooky coincidence Jim. I was meant to go to a funeral there last week.

  12. Such clean and crisp lines to this interesting building. It is a fine piece of art deco...not too little and not too much....just the right amount. The sky behind really dos set it off beautifully. genie

  15. I usually think of art deco in theatres and hotels, not crematoria. it is lovely, though.
