Erskineville, Solander Park

"Sound Sculpture" is a functional artwork in Solander Park, in the inner city suburb of Erskineville. These bronze horns, created by Greg Stonehouse and Susan Milne in 2001, amplify the sound of the old creek whose passage has been channelled into pipes underneath the park. The stormwater is collected, treated and used to irrigate the park.

  1. If I hadn't read your description, I would have taken these objects to be giant tobacco pipes, stuck stem-end in the ground! :)

  2. They remind me of two telephones waiting to be picked up. Maybe that's t he problem with the sound of cell phones, the receiver isn't cupped. They do make nice shadows.
