Millers Point, Towns Place North

Towns Place North is a building located along Towns Place, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. The two storey timber-framed weatherboard building was built in 1910 as a detached office building for the port facilities at Walsh Bay. It has been restored as part of the as part of the Walsh Bay Urban Renewal Project. A view from the other side can be seen here.

  1. It's fabulous Jim, looks like a big boat shed, beautifully restored.

  2. Timber framed weatherboard is familiar in Australia but mainly, I am guessing, for domestic architecture or small public sites. The square shapes, flat roof and large weatherboard walls are totally new to me. But very suitable for a port building.

  4. Now there is a symmetrical looking building if ever I saw one. I wonder what the architect would think about some of today's structures.

  12. Hi Jim, just came across this pic while searching for information about the Towns Bond Stores that operated during the 1940s as an employment centre for waterside workers. Have found some snippets but not a great deal. Do you know more, or where I could searc? thanks Tony B
