The Art Cube Exhibition was recently held in the southern suburb of Cronulla. It featured three giant cubes in Cronulla Mall, painted by twelve local and international artists. They were located outside the recently vacated Commonwealth Bank building which was built in 1938 in the art deco architectural style. A photo of the old bank can be seen here.
Very interesting. We had plenty of art deco construction here, too, early in the last century. It has never appealed to me. The cubes bring life to the front of the building.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting front of the building.

Beautiful, that cubes so wonderful, great idea!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the perfect place to put those art cubes.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of an OutsideArt pop-up exhibition is very clever. Especially while the weather is still gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is a clear geometric connection between modern cubes and stark Deco architecture.
Happy Blue Monday, Jim! Great exhibition. The colours pop against the white background :)
ReplyDeleteNice painted cubes, great idea to move them around.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea the cubes and I like the art deco building in the back.

ReplyDeletemuch love...
These are really neat!
ReplyDeleteI like these a lot! Hope the building gets a great re-use.
ReplyDeletehow cool and i just love that art deco building!
ReplyDeleteBig cubes are a cleaver way of saving space but maximizing the amount of art. There seems to be lots of public art in your area. Lucky you. Hope the crane doesn't foreshadow doom for the deco building. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
